AUC Module: Navigate AUC Guidelines in CPT Start Mode/All Guidelines Mode

  • updated 6 mths ago

The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) start mode, referred to as the All Guidelines Mode, allows you to access a guideline using the CPT code assigned to a particular procedure. You can set this as your default start in the Settings module, and you can also switch to the PCA start mode from this screen.

CPT Start Mode

  1. From the main page, click Advanced Imaging Services

  2. Search for and select a CPT code from the displayed list.
    - Note: If your organization's administrator has enabled the CPT filter in the settings, you can use the filter button at the top-right of the list to switch between a filtered and unfiltered list of CPT codes.

    ICD-10 Filtering
    - If your administrator has configured the ICD-10 code option, you can also enter the ICD-10 code and filter by that. If you enter a code that exactly matches a Guideline the system proceeds to the 'Advanced Imaging Service' selection screen for the matching Guideline. The system also prints the code next to the Guideline name.

  3. Select the applicable Priority Clinical Area/PCA Guideline. If you do not find a Priority Clinical Area that matches the order, you can manually enter your own Clinical Area/Indication in the Other Clinical Area/Indication field. The selected imaging service will not be validated by a guideline and the system will take you to the Review and Submit screen. In this case, you are not required to open and navigate a guideline. Instead, the system generates a results package with the status no criteria apply. This situation conforms with the way AUC is intended to work and it may be relatively common. Even though you will not have run a guideline, the CDSM service will have generated the appropriate validation results with the necessary codes and UCI for you to complete the consultation and have the billing information necessary for CMS reimbursement.

  4. Once you select an Advanced Imaging Service, the system opens the interactive user interface for the AUC guideline. On the right side of the screen you see the decision tree for the guideline. In the center part of the screen, the system displays the condition options associated with the guideline.

  5. Select from the condition options. The system advances you through the decision tree and presents you with additional condition options.

  6. As you move through a guideline, note that the top section of the guideline boxes serves as a status indicator. This status indicator box displays the current outcome status: appropriate, inappropriate, or insufficient patient data.

With outcomes that are inappropriate you have the option to select override. Additionally, the Emergency button is always present and you can use it to shortcut the validation in case of immediate urgency.

  7. When you entered a Guideline, you selected a certain Imaging Service. If, after validation, the Guideline finds this Imaging Service is appropriate the Guideline will allow you to select the Confirm draft order button.

  8. The outcome of some condition selections in a guideline is a combination of two imaging recommendations.

  9. If you have previously completed the recommended option, click the checkbox next to Previously completed. The Guideline will display additional questions for you to answer and may suggest alternative actions.

  10. If, after you enter the patient condition, the Guideline recommends another more suitable Imaging Service, the Guideline will allow you select Update draft order. The system will display the CDSM AUC Consultation Result screen with a draft order that is appropriate based on the selections you made in the Guideline.
  11. Once you have selected a recommendation and confirmed your order the system displays a popup screen with your order for review. Review and submit your consultation results. See AUC Module: Review and Submit Your Order for more information about this step.
