Voice Input with Assessment Framework

For using Speech Recognition in the Assessment Framework, LogicNets has added speech integration conveniences.

Speech Button

By default, a speech button is available in the top bar to indicate the status of speech. The following symbols represent the status:

 

By clicking on a button you can switch between active and inactive speech. This can be used, for example, to ensure that speech is temporarily switched off, even if the recording button is pressed. Voice recognition will not be active at that point.

Reporting Group Dropdown Menu

The system displays a dropdown menu next to the speech button, and this menu displays the available reporting groups. If there is a mismatch between the project-level-configured reporting group and available reporting groups, you can use this dropdown to select the correct reporting group. The browser will remember the reporting group if the same user uses the same browser for multiple sessions.

Tab Navigation

Each logicnet also has a [Speech command] configuration item. By default, the speech engine will recognize the [Logicnet Short Title] as the command for a tab, but [Speech command] allows additional commands to be recognized. To trigger tab navigation with voice, say the following followed by the short title or speech command:

• 'Page' (English)
• 'Pagina' (Dutch)
• 'Page' (French)
• 'Seite' (German)

For example: Say 'Page Microscopy' to jump to tab 'Microscopy'.

To navigate tabs in the report section say 'Page Report', 'Page Conclusion', 'Page Information', 'Page Notes'.

Top Bar Buttons

To activate the buttons on the top bar say the following phrases and include the caption of the button:

• 'Go to' (English)
• 'Ga naar' (Dutch)
• 'Aller à' (French)
• 'Gehe zu' (German)

For example, say 'Go to Verify' to trigger the Verify button.

Question Navigation

When an end user answers a question the Assessment Framework reacts as if the end user answered the question using a keyboard, meaning it jumps to the next eligible question. To navigate forward or backward through questions the end user can press the FWD and REW buttons of the microphone, like pressing down and up arrow keys on a keyboard.

Selected Question > Direct Answerable

When a question is in focus (is selected) the end user can answer the question without first saying the question caption. For example, in the image below "New findings" is the selected question and the end user can press "record" and say 'None' or 'Yes' to answer the question.

 

Answer Any Question

When a question is not in focus the end user can say the caption or the speech command configured for that question and then say the possible answer. In the image above, for example, the end user can say "Familiar deviations none" to check the "None" option in the "Familiar deviations" question.

Note that the 'slider' form part is not currently supported by speech.

Recording Highlight

The system provides visual cues for those questions for which fast recognition is active. It displays a red box around the question. For example:
